Lamotrigine / Clobazam for a 5 year old?

Thu, 06/16/2016 - 23:47
Hello, My 5 year old has migrating partial seizures of infancy. His seizures are primarily nocturnal. Day time staring spells are greatly reduced. He is on Keppra - thank God for this medication. Depakote and Zarontin did not work. Now doctor suggested that he take clobazam for his night time seizures. I was concerned about giving a sedative type meds to a 5 year old. So he suggested to try lamotrigine first along with keppra. I'm scared about the rashes but our Doctor is starting him on a really low dose 5mg tabs twice a day. I would like to hear from you all about this combination. If in case you have heard of a 5 year old on such medications and how it worked. Anyone on clobazam especially if your kid is on clobazam? I totally understand that each one has a different experience when it comes to epilepsy meds but just like to hear some of your experiences. This epilepsy journey is very painful especially to see my baby suffer! Thanks a lot for your support!

I am currently on lamotrigine and keppraThey have worked ok. The best out of all the ones I have tried. I am an adult tho. Definitely have to remember meds are always bad for you, but the doctors prescribe them because of the trade off. Lam and keppra are common starter for some folks. They have helped me quite a bit. Just remember nothing is going to be perfect and if your goal is to prevent your kid from having seizures work with your doc. Keep doing research. I really admire you for that. I have always wondered how my folks were when they found out about me. Any ways best of luck. Stay positive and remember it's a life time adjustment. Especially for the person suffering.

my granddaughter (5) was just

my granddaughter (5) was just put on clobazam for her focal epilepsy.  Keppra didn't help her and oxcarbazepine started okay but after six months she was still having seizures and they were multiplying so we switched to Keppra.  On Keppra the seizures just got more frequent.  She just started on Onfi (clobazam) and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this medicine for their child.  So far she is still having seizures so we are feeling lost.  I know it's only been a few days.  Any stories you might share about how long it took to help with your epilepsy would be appreciated.
