Knowing the signs

Hi, I’m new to this site, not really sure if I should be here or not, but I’m concern lately. For years now I have had, what I call are spells. I never was formally diagnosed for them, because I never could quick explain what they are. But lately they have been getting more frequent. Basically, when I have one of my spells, I go into a dream state, it’s always the same feeling. The dream is as through a person - I seem to know from my past - is taking me over. Strange I know, I told you it’s hard to explain. I try really hard to fight the spell and I come back. After the spell, I’m very disoriented and confused. I notice I mainly have the spells in the morning, more so when I’m tired. Do these symptoms sound familiar to any of you who already has epilepsy?

I am going Wed for my first EEG. These sound very much like what I have been having. I have a black fog start at the top of my head and goes through my body. I hear voices, which are not the ones around me and they sound very familar, but can't figure out who they are or what they are saying. It is always the same. I am not frightened by the voices as they do feel familar, but I too come out of it very tired. I had 3 or these, one on a Sunday pm, Monday am and pm, then I had a big one the next morning. I blacked out for 30 min. Don't remember anything until I woke up in the hospital. I had had these same spells about 4 years ago, but they stopped and I pushed them under the rug and forgot them. I am wondering if these are the aura I hear everyone talking about, before the big one hits. I would go get checked out because I fell and am just lucky I didn't hit my head. My spells seem to hit when I am over tired and stressed. How about you? At least I know I'm not crazy. I feel stupid trying to explain this to anyone, but the Neuro seemed to understand it. Good luck to you.

It sounds a little different. I don't hear voice's or black out. I an tell you I had a friend I grow up with who had simular symptoms that you are describing, he started getting the symptoms in his late teens early 20's. It took over 4 years before the doctors figured out what he had. He was diagnosed with having schizophrenia. I know it sounds scary, but he got medication for it and it's now under control. I'm not saying this is what you have and you might have already explored that option. My spells, I basically go into some type of dream state, but I'm awake. I'm fearly young(40's), but my worry is it might be some type of epilepsy or dementia. By the way what is a EEG?

I don't actually black out on the mini ones. I can talk and move and it is sort of a dream like stage, but I do hear what sounds familar to me. I blacked out with a big one and Dr. put generalized Tonic/Clonic seizures as my problem. EEG hopefully will confirm this. Anyway, I hope you find out what is going on. Keep looking for answers.
