Keppra and my 6yr old daughter

Sun, 01/21/2007 - 22:35
Hello! My beautiful 6yr old daughter was just diagnosed with epilepsy in December of 2006. Since then, we have witnessed grand mal, petit mal and complex partial seizures. She has already failed 2 meds (lamictal and Klonipan) She is now taking Keppra at the max dose for her weight (4 weeks now). It is just aweful. My daughter is so loving and wonderful and it seems that she has just gone away. She is mean and grumpy, screams and cries at the drop of a hat and is now having a tough time at school. She was sooo perfect b4 all of this and it just breaks our hearts to she her struggle with life. Can anyone offer any insights????

Hi there, My son is also on Keppra, and up until this week we saw similar behavior (especially the screaming and crying). He is a little younger (3 yrs). It has taken him just over a month to become less irritable and explosive. Is the Keppra controlling the seizures? We are not yet at full dose for his weight but we increased his dose two weeks ago and added vitamine B6 and his moods have really changed, he seems more like himself. Yesterday he had a seizure and I did see him go back to Mr. Grouchy pants for a bit, but he seems himself again today. Doesn't this suck??? I hate watching him go through this. I hope it changes for your little daughter. Best wishes and lots of hugs! Tresa (mama bear) PS check out my latest blog entry if you have not heard about vitamin B6 for seizures.
