Is it Simple Partial Seizures?

Mon, 11/13/2006 - 16:42
Hi everyone!!! I just found this wonderful website and was wanting some feedback from you guys. For the past nine months, I have been having these weird "episodes". It all starts with a deja vu like thought (though I can never remember what it is afterwards) and an overwhelming feeling of fear comes out of nowhere. I don't lose consciousness, but everything seems distorted a little. My stomach feels like it's in knots, I break out in a cold sweat. I still hear things that are going on around me, I can say a few words. I guess what it comes down to is I don't feel like myself. This lasts for a minute or so, then I start calming down. I still feel as if I'm gripped by fear for a few minutes afterwards. I've had an EEG, it was normal. I had a MRI a year and a half ago, but that was for the migraines I have on occasion, it was also normal. I go see my neurologist again next week and plan on mentioning the "episodes" to him again as I've had two more in the past week. Any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

RE:Is it Simple Partial Seizures? Complex partial seizures are unique to the individual. Those may involve things such as a fixed pose and lip smacking. People who have them aren't aware of a loss of consciousness and don't remember doing such things. I'm not a doctor, yet anyway, (going to change my major to neuroscience-just had a temporal lobectomy,no more trouble with sleepless nights lowering my seizure threshold), and you should take whatever anyone says with a grain of salt other than your neurologist. It sounds like you're either having panic attacks, which sounds doubtful to me, or simple partial seizures which are different than complex partial seizures (not to confuse anyone-they are both partial seizures-but you can have a simple partial seizure without it becoming a complex partial-or a generalized seizure. Check this website . (http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/topic342.htm) ...and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love...you make. Lennon&McCartney.

Hi lrochester & welcome, As one who has had both simple and complex partial seizures for a loooong time, let me give you some pages: Simple Partial Seizures http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_simplepartial.html Symptoms of a Seizure.. pre ictal (= before-seizure ); ictal (seizure); and, post ictal (= after-seizure) Note: many people are unaware of a pre or post ictal feelings.. just the seizure itself, but you have spoken of a deja vu sensation = part of a simple partial seizure type, & simple partials seizures ARE auras if/when they occur immediately before another (usually a complex partial or a generalized type of seizure) http://www.epilepsy.com/101/ep101_symptom.html Best wishes seeing the physician ~sol

Thank you for your opinion. I have mentioned this to my doctor, but I don't feel like he's taking me seriously. He mentioned it could be seizures or panic attacks, but as it usually comes out of nowhere I don't think it's panic attacks especially when I get the deja vu and fear feeling in the beginning. Thank you for taking the time to respond. :)
