Hi all, I know you get loads of people going through a health anxiety crisis so apologies for another but I'm after a little advice/feedback. For around 15 years I have had strange episodes that are the weirdest thing. Basically I can be lying in bed, relaxing on the sofa or at my desk at work and I get this sudden intense feeling in my brain. It feels as though everything is hyper sensitive, like my tongue is massive in my mouth and smells and sounds become really "sharp" if that makes sense. I also notice myself staring intensely when they are happening and forgetting to blink. I do not lose consciousness and if i choose to, can walk and function. They last around 5 minutes and there are no real after effects. I get them probably once or twice every couple of months. Now, about 2 months ago i was sitting at home watching the tele and what i can only describe as an electric shock feeling hit my brain, it was like someone plugging me in and I had a current in my brain. It also caused a surge or tingles that ran through my body. It lasted around 5 seconds and it was the WORST thing. I was terrified, i assumed i'd had a stroke or something awful. My health anxiety then proceeded to kick in and cause all the standard anxiety symptoms like headaches and palpatations etc which led me to neuros and mri's for brain tumours and ER for loads of other stuff. I start therapy for this soon and I'm feeling a lot better since my head MRI came back clean and no tumour etc. I have only just considered that this could be epilepsy basically so did not mention this to my neuro. However, the brain zaps are still there and getting more intense than when they first occurred. I had the biggest one yet a few hours ago while driving. I'm curious if anyone with Epilepsy can relate to the 2 feelings ive explained? and that my health anxiety may have been triggered by something real? Sorry for the ramble, and your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Would it be worth me suggesting that it may be epilepsy to my GP? Thank you.

The person you need to see and talk to is your GP. Have them refer you to a neurologist specializing in  epilepsy.
