I went to the neurologist

Mon, 03/27/2006 - 11:25
I made it to the neurologist and he has ordered a MRI and EEG. However it is expensive and I do not have insurance. My husband does not want me to get the tests done. He said I am only thinking of myself. And he said he lives with me and he has never seen me have a seizure. He said he knew someone that had a seizure once and he would know if I was having one. The neurologist did say I had a bad concussion from my wreck and it will take time to recover but he really wanted to look into these seizure type episodes I have been having. I dont know how to make my husband understand that not all seizures knock you down to the floor- he dont want to know. I just want to say thanks for everyone out there that has taken time to respond to questions. It really does help to know some people care.

I can't believe your husband want let you get the MRI. The doctor wants to look and make sure you are not having seizures. I was diagnosis on 3/6/06 with a seizure disorder. I never had a seizure that knock me down I was always awake or teying to fall asleep or take a nap. You need these testes so please go and have them. you can't worry about your husband you need to take care of you. If you are having seizures he can start you on meds to prevent them from getting worse. I know it can be expensive but you can;t put a price tag on your life.

Hi there, this is my little old opinion but it sounds to me like it's your husband who thinking only of himself. Epilepsy is a scary thing to go through and he should be there for you. You are very right, not all seizures occure in the same manner, they are like people each is and can be different. Not having the MRI and EEGs your doctor suggested can be dangerous. Shame on him. I, like you, had a concussion after my wreck, my head busted out the drivers side window of my car. I seized while I was driving and drove through a stop sign into traffic and was hit on the driver's side. These MRIs and EEGs without insurance will be expensive but to identify your seizures and how bad they are, it will be money well spent. Perhaps the office you go to could work a payment plan of some kind. I would love to help you if I could. Please know this is an extremely friendly and helpful site and most of us have been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I wish you nothing but the best. Vanessa
