I need a little help !!

Mon, 05/22/2006 - 12:24
Hi Iam very new to this, so please bear with me. I was diagnoised with Epilepsy at the age of 17 now 31 in total I have 9 grand mal fits, I know I am very lucky compared to other people. The reason I need some help is 2 years ago I started to have some moments as I call them and my head would fly back and I would make a roar sound noise but in a second I would be total back to normal, sometimes if I was standing I would fall to me knees, or sometimes I could be drinking a cup of tea and I would end spitting it down me, It almost like me body is 2 steps of my brain and my catches up and I have a sezuire, this has been going on now for nearly 2 years and the are getting processivly worse. I have been to see the top bods and had a EEG and MIR Scan and they decided to started me on Keppra but unfortunately it has not worked at all, I work full time and desperately wanted to know if anybody had been through this as it is getting me down. I would be grateful for any thoughts on this.

When meds don't work, tracking symptoms and descriptions and sharing with doctor and team is very important. Sometimes other tests are needed or different ways of treating them. For example, more detailed EEG testing can help sort out if events are seizures and what type. Some types respond better to certain meds than others. And if events are not all electrical seizure, then other reasons for them can be sorted out! Here's a link to info on types of testing that may help!

Hi epi, :) I wanted to convey my gratitude for the link. Unlike the USA, in Canada patients don't get copies of the report that specalists send to the general practitioner. It's up to specialists to share information.. and with the lack of memory had by most epileptics, we'd be far better (IMO) with copies of the file. Hi Kelly, :) While the described event may be nothing associated with E (I'm no physician), the general description sounds along the partial variety (your awareness of every strange thing that occurs). Fact # 2..it is definitely not uncommon for people to have more than one type of seizure (I always had simple and complex partials) Fact #3.. as we age, or change meds our seizures may change and this truth is not uncommon. Here is a page on seizure symptoms you might want to check out: http://www.epilepsy.com/101/ep101_symptom.html Best of luck.. ~sol
