I may have epilepsy

Fri, 08/21/2015 - 12:33

Hi,

I had a seizure during sleep like 2 months ago and was transported to a hospital by an ambulance immediately. After I got there I had MRI scan, EEG and a sleep EEG and blood tests. All came normal. However a week ago I had another seizure again while I am asleep. I am going to see a neurologist this week and was told that I may be diagnosed epilepsy. I was really worried and surprised. I am 19 and have no genetic inclination for epilepsy. Do you guys think this is epilepsy? Also I used several anti depressants (cymbalta 60 mg mostly) and concerta 54 mg for a year or so and I cut them like 3 months ago. Can any of these medicines trigger this type of sleep seizures?

I would love to be informed more about my current situation before I go to see my doc.

Thanks in advance

So you had a seizure 2 months ago. Then had another seizure a week ago. You now have an appointment with a neurologist I am 19 and have no genetic inclination for epilepsy  Anybody at any age be they rich or poor white black or red can get epilepsy. If the tests were done in the ER and they weren't checkedand read by a neurologist that specializes in epilepsy then they may not know what and where to look for certain things.. If you have an apt with your neurologist he will be able to get the tests from the hospital and go over them with you.Now for your information... All it takes to diagnose epilepsy is 2 seizures. Which you posted you have had.Relax and wait for your appt. Talk to the neurologist and do answer his questions. Ask some of your own. Try and keep a good relationship with him/her.I have always done that and I got answers over the phone to some of my other questions.I hope this helpsJoe
