I don't know what to do

Tue, 12/01/2015 - 20:36

I'll describe what happened. I'm hoping somebody can tell me whether I should be worried. I don't know what to do. I'm 41 and this has never happened to me before. I have never fainted or had a panic attack or anything like that.

Last night I went to bed. I usually fall asleep within seconds of turning out the light (seriously, like within 10 seconds). I couldn't sleep, which is really unusual - it happens maybe one night a year. Anyway, after about 30 minutes I got up and went to the kitchen to get some water. On my way back, I felt sort of a chill coming on, like if I was really cold (but it wasn't particularly cold - I live in Phoenix, AZ). It came on really fast, kind of bottom up, starting in my legs. I barely made it back to the bedroom. I kind of sat/flopped on the bed (still upright) and that's when the shaking really started. I didn't lose consciousness, but I couldn't look away from this one little area above my nightstand. I don't feel like I had a very good grasp of time, but I'd say it lasted maybe 20 seconds. The weirdest part (well, it was all weird) was the breathing. I can't describe it, but it was kind of like gasping for air, but only breathing out. As terrifying at this was, I was completely exhausted and fell asleep immediately. (Looking back I'm really surprised, because the second I got up this morning I began scouring the internet to try and figure it out).

So now that I have ready tons of stuff on the net, and watched a bunch of youtube videos, I am completely stressed out. What should I do? Do I need to go to the doctor? Will they take away my drivers license?

PS, I am a type 2 diabetic, and have a host of other issues (high cholesterol, high bp, etc.) all of which are well-controlled, and I'm not in bad health. I exercise regularly, etc.
