Hypoglycemia or Seizure?

Wed, 05/18/2016 - 18:36
Hello! I have some questions concerning episodes I have had over the years. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia 6 years ago, after having fainting spells in the mornings. I have no record or diagnosis of diabetes or anything else along those lines. I can wake up in the morning and know I will have an episode in an hour or two, just by a feeling I get. I have also noticed a pattern that my spells occur more often after I've had a poor nights sleep. I try to have a protein bar and water every morning, but even then I have the episodes sometimes. What's weird is sometimes when I have zero breakfast, I'm fine. So it just depends on the day. My episodes look like this: I have always been aware of these episodes, and when my first symptom starts, I know what's happening. I start yawning multiple times, with my eyes watering. I start fidgeting around because I think if I keep my self busy (like my legs and hands), the feeling of what's coming will go away. I begin to feel very heavy, like a huge weight falls on me. Rapid heart rate and a feeling of dread hit me because I know what's coming. Everything starts to slow down like slow motion, and my hearing sounds like I am underwater, occasionally with a ringing noise, hearing my heartbeat in my ears, or total loss of sound. My vision turns yellow, and I have a hard time keeping my eyes open and my head up. My face twitches uncontrollably and I can't stop my eyes from squeezing shut constantly. I get really hot, and sweat profusely. I become clammy and pale. I have the urge to lay down and I usually sit right where I am, or even lay down if I can. I become drowsy, but I know I shouldn't close my eyes voluntarily. I've been known to lose control of my emotions when these spells occur, and I burst into tears. I'm typically with people when these spells occur, and they will get me water and a snack. These spells last for a couple of minutes, and I tend to feel much better and even like a bubbly relief after they pass. I understand that the water and snack will help me pull out of these spells if it's a hypoglycemic attack, but could the timing of when I finally eat and the time I finally recover just be a coincidence? I guess my question is, could this be a simple partial seizure rather than a hypoglycemic reaction? Or is this classic hypoglycemia?? I've never checked my blood sugar during these attacks, but if my blood sugar is at a normal limit when this happens, what should I do? If you have any ideas of what may be going on, or what I should do, please feel free to let me know! Thank you!
