Hi, My name is Kathy, I would love to ask some questions about medicines, like do you ever just take a medicine, and feel normal on it, or is there always side effects? I'm 50 yrs old, and had 1 seizure 22 yrs ago and again 1 last week? I know crazy huh...big time gap...the Dr. put me on trileptal now, I feel weird on it, what about dilantin?, 22 yrs ago, I tried, tegretol, and phenebarbital, and couldn't tolerate those either, and I'm not doing much better on this one, please help with suggestions...Thanks in advance, Kathy

Hello and welcome to the forums Kathy. (nice name) ;) I am not a doctor but I don't think that their are many meds that done have some sort of side effects. I am doing pretty good on the mix of my Keppra & lamictal. Alot of people take that combination and I believe do well also. I got so tired on Tegretol, I was like a zombie when they gave me the dose that helped the seizures. I broke out in a really hot & red rash with the dilantin so I can't take that. I have been on others that just plain didn't work. If the doctor is thinking you are going to be having more seizures then I would have him/her work til the right med is found. Have you had any since you wrote this and what kind of seizures were those 2 you had? Good luck with your meds and again welcome to the forums. Check out the chat room. We have a lot a good people that visit in there a lot and we get a lot of answers to thing we are needing to know. Hope you will join us sometime. Cathy

Hi, Cathy Both seizures were grand mal ones, the first one 22 yrs ago, I was sleep deprived, and had been partying all night, and then I went 22 yrs and was fine until the other day and out of the blue I had one? I sure don't get it, although ,theres got to be a medicine out there that does the job and doesn't make you feel like your in a funk when you take it, gosh the medicine makes me feel worse, can't think, can't catch my balance, depressed?...I thought medicine was supposed to make you feel better? NOT WORSE. Is there anyone out there that feels normal on medicine and gets through they're everyday life? Any thoughts...
