HEADACHES

Sun, 06/18/2006 - 08:55
I am new to the site. I am really desperate...my son has been diagnosed with Epilepsy (absonce) since he was 6. He is 8 now and has headaches (MIGRAINS) that usually end in thowing up. The H/A last anywhere from a couple of hours (if we are extremely lucky) to 48 hours. He also shows the ADHD signs...but compared to the H/A I can deal with that. When we are laying there in bed with his H/A he tells me he'd like to die because his head throbs so much. Has anyone dealt withthese types of H/A. We are on our third Neurologist.

I'M SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR SONS HEADACHE BUT I CAN SEE WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM. I HAVE THE SAME HEADACHE WHERE YOU DON'T WONT TO DO ANYTHING BUT DIE. MINES CAN LAST ALL DAY OR JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS NO PAIN KILLERS CAN TAKE THEM AWAY FOR ME. I STARTED HAVING SEIZURES IN 2004 BT THAT DOCTOR AT THAT TIME DIDN'T WNT TO DO NOTHING BECAUSE MY EEG CAME BACK NORMAL. WELL IN 2005 I HAD A NEW DOCTOR AND MY SEIZURES CAME BACK AND HE TOLD ME RIGHT AWAY IT WAS SEIZURES BUT HE WANTED TO MAKE SURE OTHER THINGS WASN'T CAUSING MY SEIZURES SO WE DID TESTING AND THEY STOP BUT THE WEEK OF XMAS EVE I HAD TWO SEIZURES BACK TO BACK SO I WENT TO SEE MY DOCTOR AND HE SAID IT WAS TIME TO SEE A NERUOLOGIST AND WHEN I WENT TO SEE HIM HE SAID THEY WERE SEIZURES BUT HE DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND I'M HAVING YET BUT I DO NEED TO BE ON MEDS SO HE STARTED ME ON TRILEPTAL 300MG TWICE A DAY. I TOOK VERY WELL TO THE MEDS AND I ONLY HAD LITTLE SIDE EFFECT TO THE MEDS BUT I STILL GETS MY HEADACHE. I GO SEE THE NERUOLOGIST ON THE 19TH OF THIS MONTH WHICH IS TOMORROW. EVEN THOUGH I'M TAKING MEDS I HAVE STILL HAVE HAD SEIZURES SO I'M AFRAID HE WILL RASIE THE DOSE OR ADD NEW MEDS TO IT OR CHANGE MY MEDS. I HOPE YOUR SON FEEL BETTER SOON

Hi I have had epilepsy since I was ten, now I am 30 and I used to have head aches too. Some people get head aches along with their condition too. Only this year I have been given a new drug to try out, still trying out combined with others, but it is well known for helping head aches. It's called Topamax and since I started taking it, I no longer have the head aches. I hope your son does feel better soon, Quirky

I am sorry about the headaches I get them sometime but never migranes. Since he also has epilepsy they have found that they are very closely related. Talk to your doctor about this, I would recommend finding an Epileptologist in your area. There aren't that many out there and you might have to travel but they specialize in epilepsy and until I saw one I had seizures for 20 years. I know how frustrating it is to get a good neurologist we went through at least 15-20 throught my life but it has been worth it in the end. If you would like to email me feel free at hoverton44@yahoo.com Best of luck to you and your son. Heather "I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." Maya Angelou
