Got my official diagnosis today (its been a while since I was here)

Hey all! I just wanted to drop in and update. I had an MRI in Dec (normal) and an EEG in Jan (within normal limits, but had some weird stuff from what I could gather from the report). Today was my first visit with my neurologist that my PCP referred me to. After going over my records, asking me questions about the car accident I was in (which is when this began), and looking over the testing, he concluded that I am indeed having simple partial seizures. As much as I don't WANT anything to be "wrong" with me, I am relieved to have a diagnosis. I feel I am one of the lucky ones who had a doctor who is very up to date and knew that a "normal" EEG didn't mean that I wasn't having seizures. Anyway, he is starting me on Lamictal. I will be taking my first dose in the morning. Thanks to all of you for support in the past. I will try to continue to stop in and let you know how it is going, as well as offer help/advice to anyone I can. THANKS! Stacie

Welcome back, staciem. I know what you mean about your reaction to a diagnosis. It's a little scary, but then at least you know what you're working with and can start meds and adapt. I had nagging feelings that I was "losing it" for a year or two leading up to the grand mal seizure that got me into a neurologist, and now I know I was just having a bunch of simple and complex partial seizures. I'm on Keppra (I wonder why some docs go for Keppra and others for Lamictal, or one of dozens and dozens of other options?), and it was tough at first but got better and better week to week until I feel pretty darn normal now. I hope you do well on lamictal, and I will "see" you around!

Yes, I am allowed to drive. My doc states that by MY state's law, you only have to give up driving if you have lost consciousness, which I have not. If you do, you have to go 3 months without a loss of consciousness and you can get them back. Stacie M :-)
