Focal Epilepsy - Childhood

My daughter was just diagnosed with focal epilepsy. She had two seizures in two months. She's only 2 years old. How common is it for such young children to be diagnosed with epilepsy?

epilepsy is diagnosed in children and in seniors at higher rates than in other ages. focal epilepsies occur slightly more often than generalized epilepsies. childhood epilepsies are more likely to be genetic and have a better chance of stopping/resolving than epilepsies diagnosed at later ages. none of that info helps anyone really start coping with the diagnosis. epilepsy is near the top of the most common neurological conditions (along with stroke, migraines, etc...) yet no one is familiar with just how varied and complex some cases can be, few people seem to know anyone else who has it, etc..  I found that after I could talk to other parents at school about it, I found a lot of parents shared their child/family has something to deal with - either health wise (sometimes epilepsy) or personal struggle. sometimes  people feel alone because people don't talk about these issues in person.

Hello, My son was diagnosed

Hello, My son was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 1.8years and is still on the medication (tegretol 13ml twice a day). He just turned 4. As per the doctor he is doing fine till now and his medication can be ended in few months. I am really worried after reading all the comments on this forum that even after so many years the epilepsy episodes can be started again. I want to know the probability of this, what are the chances of its occurance again after finishing the medicine. And what are the side effects of the medicine in future.

Childhood onset epilepsy is common. Even younger children are diagnosed, some since birth.
