First time seizure

Wed, 08/09/2017 - 20:36
I had a first time seizure 3 weeks ago. No one in my family has epilepsy and I've never had one before. Came completely out of the blue, I didn't even realize I had one. Incontinence and tounge biting gave it away. So far the results are coming back normal, which is good. Did a 4 day EEG w/ video recording and EKG, the report was unremarkable. I'll be doing another one in two weeks. Not taking any meds just magnesium supplement. I'm in my early 20s and really confused about why this happened and extremely anxious that it may happen again. Really don't want to be on any medication. ER doctor and first neurologist say it's common and happens to a lot of people, and attribute mine to my lifestyle of working full time and graduate school, lots of caffeine, stress and lack of sleep. A second neurologist suggested medication as a preventative approach. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any suggestions?

Anyone at any time can get

Anyone at any time can get epilepsy..As for tests coming back normal and doing another one. It happens. Did they do an MRI? So the first neurologist is right in many ways. If you looked in the LEARN section and triggers you would find stress and lack of sleep is a big trigger for many people. The second neurologist is correct too since medications have been designed to treat seizures. Just as each person is different so are their seizures. A medication that works for one person to control their seizures it may not work on the next. Or it may work at a different dosage. Relax and learn what you need to in order to control your seizures and epilepsy rather then letting epilepsy control you.

YES! Im new to this new..In may i have a possible seizure in my sleep and a month ago i may have had one, i NEVER had one in my life and no one in my family has em. SO im so scared..I bite my tongue both times but no incontinence. Ive had a MRI and EEG both normal..I seen my neurologist for the first time a couple days ago to talk about all this, he told me stress/anixety and lack of sleep CAN give you seizures but hes not saying thats whats happening to me. Hes not labeling me as epileptic right now though hes calling them "Spells" hes ordered another EEG i need to get done. He put me on KEPPRA wants me to take it and see if anymore spells happen again.. i go back in November.. i did not want to be on medicine..especially ones that mess with your brain..but i have no choice..i dont want these episodes to happen again..i know how you feel though..im 31 stay at home mom its scary.
