First Nocturnal Seizure, Help!

Fri, 03/10/2017 - 10:18
So I had my first nocturnal seizure the other day (Presidents Day) and I've been concerned ever since, even to the point to where it's difficult to fall asleep because of the concern I have of having another one. Can anyone provide me some statistics on what the odds are of me having another one? Some things to note are, I have no history of seizures nor does my family, all of my scans came back completely normal. This includes CT, MRI, EEG and blood test. The neurologist I first met with told me it's fairly common for someone to have one seizure in their lifetime. Also I am a 24 year old male. I had also met with a different Neurologist yesterday who suggested if I can stand the side effects that I should start AED treatment right away which is the exact opposite of what the other neuro said. Also he basically told me to never touch another cup of alcohol again or I will have a seizure. Mind you I don't have any issues with alcohol abuse but I am in my mid 20's so I do go out from time to time, can anyone provide any insight on this and whether or not they have had a similar experience? Before this occurred the only thing that changed in my routine was me using topical rogaine for alopecia.

I think I answered this a dat

I think I answered this a dat or 2 ago. It was put in another question areaIt all depends on if you want to be safe as to what you should do or which neurologist you need to listen to. If this was happening to my son I would be going with the second neurologist. The one that wants you on meds. As for no alcohol. Many are saying that and have been foryears now. Of the 12-13 neurologists I have had out of the same group I have been with since 1971 half say NO. The other half say a drink every now and then will not hurt. So you being young want to ago out with friends. Do it but watch the amount you drink. You  would be surprised to know there are many people going to bars and clubs with their friends and drinking little or no alcohol. The drinks look like everybody elses. The only difference is one has alcohol while the other has more juice or tonic or cola. They were called Shirley Temples and in some areas still are. Get to know your bar tenders and let them know and even is someone buys you a drink it will be non alcoholic. Been there done that back in the dico days. Oh and AED's do work. I can have a seizure while discussing something with you and handing you a drink today and you would not know I had one.I hope this helps and you get the assistance you needJoe
