Doc is confused. Partials triggered by diet???

Mon, 04/10/2017 - 19:06
Somewhat out of nowhere, I started getting simple partial siezures. There were one or two maybe a few months apart, but then BAM, fiver per day. I was on adderall, moderately drinking and sparsely using marijuana. i quit all of the above and adopted a ketogenic diet. The siezures slowly trailed off. Four per day, three per day then a few light versions of siezures that were barely noticeable. I went a full month without siezures and fell off the food wagon due to a cake and a few beers. Then, BAM, the same siezures pattern hit. I stayed clean and they once again trailed off. Last week a donut tempted me and I gave in. BAM, but this time it is different. The siezures trailed off, but I am left feeling weak and constantly a bit shakey. I'm full ketogenic, but my neurologist is surprised the diet is affecting the siezures as he thinks that ketogenic normally is associated with full siezures. I also have tingling extremities and in my nose at times, especially the morning. Any idea what is happening to me?

Is your neurologist a specialist in epilepsy. Within this site you can find out more about the ketogenic diet. And yes a donut can screw it up. Doc knew me when he started telling me about it. He knew I loved cooking and I made fresh bread and home made cinnamon rolls I too to the office now and then along with malted milk chocolate chip cookies. In other words the diet would be broken several time each week. Over time seizures change. Just like a person changes. weight gains or losses affect medications. But unless your neurologist is a specialist then he doesn't know everything about the ketogenic diet.  Doc brought it up because he thought it might help control my seizures. Well your neurologist does not know everything. My seizures are focal and any of the partial seizures and I have had some that generalized. So if Doc said it might help control my seizures and the only seizures I was having are focal or simple partial then I would go with my Doc since he has been specializing in epilepsy since the 80's.
