Did I have a normal reaction to an EEG?

Thu, 04/30/2015 - 19:12

I had a sleep deprived EEG in 2006 but I never experienced anything like I did with the standard EEG that I had today. The one mentioned above had both the light flashes and the hyperventilation, but the one today only had the lights. My left hand started jerking and twitching-like for several seconds periodically throughout the test. Then when the flashing lights began, both of my eyes started jerking or twitching around. I don't know how to explain the sensation. Then about a minute or so before the test ended, I started breathing rapidly like I'd been running fast. When the light quit the weird breathing quit. I ended up with nausea, shakiness and an awful headache. I mentioned the above happenings to the tech but she acted like it was nothing and said I'd be hearing from the doctor next week. She video taped the entire test (about an hour) for the doctor to watch while he reviewed the results so hopefully they will figure something out. In the meantime, does this sound like I had a normal reaction or like I may be epileptic? I've just been so sick lately and I'm kind of scared. Thank you.

generally the person giving

generally the person giving the EEG does just that. If it was videoed then the neurologist will review it along with reading the EEG. The person said the doctor to watch while he reviewed the results so hopefully they will figure something out" meaning the neurologist will tell you about the test and go over it. If things went as you said they did then you might have epilepsy. They were checking all kinds of things that can cause seizures in some people. A person can have light sensitivity and lights flashing can cause them to have seizures.
