Daughter just diagnosed with seizures

Fri, 08/14/2015 - 11:08

My daughter who is 5 was just diagnosed with epilepsy. She just started taking 200mg of Keppra a day, literally, last night was first dose, this morning second...would side effects start that quick? She is bouncing off the walls, and being incorrigible!

I have been reading a lot on here, and its nice to have a place where people understand where you are coming from! : )

I am on Keppra I started off at 500mg two times a day and didn't realize any effects until I was upped to 1000mg in the morning and 1500mg at night. If you think she may be having effects from it call your pharmacist and ask them if they can't answer call the Dr. Usually meds take about a week to really show any signes of effect

side effects do happen and

side effects do happen and generally when their body is getting used to the medication. Discuss this issue with her neurollogist since the dosage may be lowered and work from there rather then changing meds right off the bat. When I was first put on meds I took the dilantin, The dosage was too high and I was losing my equalibrum. They lowered the dosage and after a few weeks raised it to the dosage needed. I had no problems with it for aother 35 years I hope this helps and she gets seizure free Joe
