Complex Partial Seizures

Fri, 10/27/2006 - 09:16
Hey, I just recently got diagnosed with Complex Partial Seizures and I've been finding it really hard to cope, and was just wondering if there's anybody else out there like this? I have 2 types of 'attacks', the main one starts off with seeing a smoky haze, then getting dots in front of my eyes and my tummy drops like when you go over a bump. I normally manage to sit down, and then I don't remember much for a few minutes. After I come out of the seizure I am normally drenched with sweat and quite frightened, this happens maybe once a week. The other sort happens a few times a day, maybe more where I just feel really surreal and confused, and my tummy drops as well and I have difficulty breathing, afterwards I blank out but only for maybe 5 seconds. I'm finding it really hard coping with day to day life as I'm scared that it might happen when I cross the road, or walk down stairs. Anyone else going through a similar thing or have any advice for me? I don't really know anything at all about what's happening to me as my neurologist isn't very good. Okay thanks and have a good day

Hi Ya Ninja! I am currently getting diagnosed with similar stuff. I too find it hard to cope and I find myself happily spending the whole day at home in attempt to avoid any yucky situations. I think having a good Neuro makes all the differnce. Do you know of any other good Neuros that you could see? Solis (a lovely member of this forum) has just explained to my me that these feelings of fear and anxitey that we have can come in the territory of Epilespy, so maybe you will need a new good Neuro to help you in this area. Remember to be kind to yourself, and keep on trucking! ------------------------------ Peace, Love, Mung Beans

I am still in the process of testing for Temporal Lobe Seizures. I had an ambulatory EEG and am awaiting the results. Without a firm Diagnosis, I would be remiss to try and help. But I can imagine the fear that you have is tremendous. Just a thought, but if you don't click with your current neurologist, you may want to seek out a second opinion or a new neurologist. A good rapport with one's treatment provider is important. In my opinion, you need to feel comfortable asking anything or discussing anything. Just something to think about. I'm sorry you are so scared, hopefully that will dissipate some over time.

Hello Ninja, Epilepsy in itself can be scary so when you don't understand what is happening to you or what you can do to control it, it will be hard to cope with. First thing, if you aren't pleased with you neuro, find another one. I would suggest looking for an Epitologist in your area. They are so much more educated in epilepsy/seizures for they have 3yrs more medical studies then the neurologist. I found one here in Maine and I met her in May and she confirmed me to be a good surgery candidate by August and I just had my right temporal lobectomy surgery on 11/12th/06. The feeling you get that your tummy drops. I used to have strange feelings in my belly like butterflies and it would come right up through my chest and I would feel like I had dry heaves and was going to through up. That was my kind of auras. I have had them since age 16. I sometimes had the auras and other times I would go right into a seizure. I do know the anxiety your going through not wanting to leave your home. I used to live that way and then I just said "whatever will be will be". I got tired of not doing anything in fear that I was going to have a seizure, and I was a single mom for years. I have a fireplace in my home, I burned candles all the time. I had to go out for the mail, I cooked all the meals. Being a single mom I couldn't pick and choose what I wanted or could do in fear of what would happen. My advice to you ninja would be to find you a neurologist or Epitologist that you are comfortable with and one who will give you the answers to your questions. Find the right medications that will help you get these under control and go on from there. Don't let the fact you have epilepsy stop you from living a good life. I think I have written a little about my trip from age 16 to present in my blog. Ya might want to read it if it is still there. I wish you the best of luck and God Bless you always.
