coming off keppra

Tue, 11/25/2014 - 23:36
Hi I'm not sure if any can answer this for me but if you can thank you. I'm a 24 year guy that had one seizure that changed my whole life. I had one while driving my car on way home from work. Luckily unscathed. I believe it to be a reaction to a steroid I'd been given by my Dr for inflammation in my chest cavity, but back to point that pretty much only seizure I've had they said was a grand mal seizure. As soon as I got to hospital they said take this no side effects just will stop your seizures. So now I take keppra 500 mg twice a day. Since accident been dropped by health insurance company for pre existing condition and no longer have drivers license. I can't afford medicine I finally found insurance kinda. But tried not taking keppra once before and immediately had another seizure. I'm not sure what to do!

There are ways to get keppra

There are ways to get keppra without having insurance. Also there is a generic for keppra that does work. There are several makers of the generic and I have used 4-5 different makers of it. Keppra is now becomming the go to medication for stopping seizures. As for your insurance company dropping you they need to understand that it may not be s pre existing illness. Anyone at any time in their lives can get epilepsy. It is more common then Parkinsons, ALHZ and strokes combined. The ammount of keppra you are taking is close to mid range but then I am taking the max ammount. As for being diagnosed with epilepsy all it takes is 2 seizures even without tests being made. The ER doctor should have told you to contact your doctor or a neurologist. Start by calling the 24/7 hotline which can be found on any of the pages on this site. With this page it is listed in the GET HELP section at the bottom. They can tell you more about insurance. The maker of the medication has ways to get the medication free for a period of time. States also have ways to get it. Hospitals can give out a months supply or maybe more. but I havn't had to use them got a few years.  I hope this helps and you get the assistance you need   Please call the 24/7 hotline they can give you more information and answer your questions. Joe

Hey Joe I really appreciate your help! I just really want to know what's going on. I feel lost in my mind. It's scary not knowing if or when you can have one I know I read online that stress can trigger one but how can you not stress about having one when you don't know why you had one in first place. Idk maybe just me. But thank you I will give them a call!
