Baby Seizures/Convulsions. Delayed Milestone.

Wed, 02/07/2007 - 04:21
Hi, My baby has started with convulsions/seizures. I am in deep trouble. The whole family is disturbed. She is 6 months old and there is no neck holding yet. Doctors are saying that she is having delayed milestone. Her MRI is normal.EEG showed is abnormal. Initially the seizures had a frequency of about once in 3-4 days. After starting treatment of Valparine the seizures had not occured for last 20 days. But it occured again 3 days back. The seizure lasts for almost 1.5 hour. I am very deep trouble. Myself and my wife use to cry atleast once a day. The baby use to do very less movement of her legs and hands. Only good sign is that her audible power is very good and she laughs when somebopdy watches her. But no neck holding yet. I am worried what is to be done now? Will she be mentally retaliated in future? I am worried that when she will hold her neck, when she will sit, when she will crawl, when she will walk etc.... The last question is WHY ME? rest everything is very very fine with me.... I am very happy on all other fronts... Pl advice/help me. I am in deep trouble.

I am new to this and my son is in a similar position.  We are just starting all the tests and meeting with doctors.  Would you mind sharing how your son is doing and if you have seen any improvements since you wrote this?

My son is almost 6 months old. He has had seizures since birth. The Doctors are calling it Ideopathic, intractable epilepsy. He too has very low tone to his body and poor muscle control. Like your baby he is very social (Of course that is only during the few times when he is awake and alert). He is on Phenobarb, Keppra and Zonesimide. We are currently in the hospital where he has just started the Ketogenic diet. Perhaps the miracle we have been hoping for? Anyways I recently started massaging my son everyday for a 1/2 and hour. Focusing primarily on his neck chest and shoulders. I also have started taking him to a chiropractor 2-3 times a week. Since starting to do those. My son is now able to support his trunk of his body and move his arms and legs with control. He is still not able to hold his head up except when he is on his stomache and only for short periods of time before he is totally worn out. I cannot believe how quickly his muscle tone has improved in less than two weeks. My only regret is that I wish I would have tried the chiropractic care much sooner.
