Advice

Hi, We are new to epilepsy. Our daughter (12) had her first known siezure 3 months ago and we are scared, sad, nervous, stressed etc. We thought we had her medication correct, but we are in China on vacation and she has had two siezures. The doctor has increased her medication because she says the time change was probably the trigger, which makes sense. We don't typically travel a lot but this was a work trip for me so we decided to take the while family. My wife and I have had a cruise planned together for a while and we leave two days after we get back from China. We are thinking of canceling it because we are scared that our daughter will have another one when we get back. We know this is something that we have to live with but we don't know what to do. I always want to be there when she has them but I know I can't. We are so nervous for her to have one at school. She is a very active and good kid but she is also at a terrible age socially for kids. Sorry for the rambling. We just don't know what to do for her.

OK yes trips can cause issues

OK yes trips can cause issues. I haven't gone over seas but yes I do go to Ca. from time to time. When going to N.M. I had no problems. I made sure the time I took mine were within 30 minutes of my regular time. Now Ca is a 2 hour change. I was awake hours before anybody else was and I took my pills at my regular time. I got less sleep but I still had no seizures..Depending on the number of time zones you will be going thru will make  a difference. But if it one or 2 then go on the cruise. If more then that then do ask the neurologist how to adjust her meds so she won't have seizures.

we've found trips increase

we've found trips increase sleep disruptions and are very exciting (both triggers for our child) so we travel (to distant places) but skip overly ambitious/crazy travel schedules. also use melatonin to help get onto regular sleep routine after flying.do you know what kind(s) of seizures your child has? do you know that most seizures stop without intervention and are not an emergency?  if seizures last 5min, you should ask about emergency meds to use but really, 3 months is not a long time for getting the hang of things. your child may have seizures controlled, grow and then have some breakthrough seizures leading to meds needing adjusting.
