About me...

Hey, I'm Terry. I hope you don't mind if I completely unload. I just moved to Mississippi to live with my dad and stepmom. I've lived with my mom in Florida for several years now- for too long I have been convinced that I have to depend on other people because I have a seizure disorder- I was diagnosed when I was 10 years old. I tried to move out, get a job, go to college but I have a tendency to throw in the towel. Everything seems to big and I give up. My dad is happy to have me here and I know he won't let me continue to be the slacker I used to be. My mom has suffered from depression for almost as long as I can remember so she never had the strength to push me to get a job. I don't blame her for where I am in life but it's hard not to feel some resentment, she enabled my laziness because she loved having me at home. Still I accept responsibility for where I currently am in life. I had a seizure last December and I was coming up on one year seizure free. I was really looking forward to driving until I had a seizure last night. I hear people complain about driving, this used to bother me when I was younger not so much anymore, though... okay maybe a little. I sound like such a buzzkill. I'm really not. I'm just going through a horribly awkward transition. I don't have any friends right now. I honestly haven't defined myself in life yet. I don't know what I'm passionate about nor have I developed any unique skill and that's sad to think about. I haven't defined myself as a person because I haven't gained any life experience. I'm going to be 26 years old next month and I don't know who I am. I'm a hot mess, guise.

Hi Terry, welcome to epilepsy.com. We're here for you and hope you find the connection and support you're looking for. Two ideas that might spur you into action:- Consider reaching out to the Epilepsy Foundation Mississippi. They have support groups and activities around the state. Meeting other people who are going through some of the same things you are can help and you may find some friends in your new state. Your experiences may help others in the group too. The Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi has volunteer opportunities too. Giving to others can be a great motivator and a way to try out different activities that may reveal your passion. Check them out at http://epilepsy-ms.org.- There are organizations that help people with disabilities find jobs. Two are Bender Consulting Services (https://www.benderconsult.com/) and Getting Hired (http://www.gettinghired.com/). Getting Hired is having an online career expo on Oct 5th. Learn about the career expo here: http://www.epilepsy.com/article/2017/9/october-5th-online-career-expo-people-disabilities
