Abnormal EEG/ infant

Fri, 06/02/2006 - 14:50
Our three month old foster baby was exposed to cocaine inutero, and looked as though she might be having 4 second seizures--fixed and deviated eyes. The EEG reports "no epileptiform features seen" but "continuous polymorphic delta activity excessively slow for age" "Classification: Abnormal EEG: generalized background slowing" Does anyone have a clue as to how this might be interpreted. I cannot find anything that matches these terms well on the net. Any insight will of course be taken with a grain of salt. SHe is otherwise very healthy and observed to be developmentally normal. She's really a treat! Thanks for any help

Hello chrisalis, I had almost the same diagnosis at 3months. My original EEG report read my polymorphic delta activity as "unstable". This was in 1970. By the time I was 8 months I had had 4 EEG's. After 4 EEG's (asked Mom, but she don't remember all the resaults) and a conferance of 3 Neouro's, I was finaly diagnosed. Finding a "classification" or even a specific area to narrow down symptoms are {in my opinion} too "generalized" by too many Doctors these days. No matter what field they may be in. I would have her have a second or even a third opinion if at all possible. More so because she is so young. Have you tried this site? http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/ Ask around in the "parents" forum. I learn alot there, and unlike alot of forums out there, they don't mind what the reason is your there. Very freindly and informitive folks. Best to her and you Patrick
