45 and new Epileptic, or Epileptic for years?

Tue, 06/20/2017 - 12:44
45 yo female, no kids, married, husband works week on week off on the Mississippi River. I am pretty sure i had a seizure 1 year ago in my sleep, i awoke with a severely bitten lower lip, but didn't realize it until my husband witnessed the next seizure. Then at the end of April I had a grand mal seizure at home , on the couch , no warning, thankfully husband was home. Not much help from doctor. Had EEG and MRI. Started Lamictal. Totaled 4 Runner when i passed out and seizured when driving a couple of weeks ago. Going to see new doc in a few weeks. Now also on Keppra. My main question is, is this a NEW problem, or an old one that I am just being made aware of? Could i have been having seizures in my sleep. I also have been suffering from depression, most of life, that has gotten worse as i have aged. Anxiety, ADD, and trouble sleeping. ALL problems have gotten worse as i have gotten older. I can't get to neurologist until July 5.

Can't get to log on often so only just seen your post. I am fairly new to this epilepsy lark but from what little  I have read and experienced the seizure can come in all different forms. When one is asleep, making one frozen but conscious/unconscious etc etc. Also in my case anyway it seems to be a changeable. Also one needs specialist diagnosis because other conditions can affect the brain to cause seizure like symptoms etc. Many people seem to do well on meds, but does seem  necessary to try and change if necessary and balance things with side effects that some get and others don't. Just log everything, write in detail what happened. Go to apt with questions and take someone with  as you can and log everything will help be proactive. Best of luck

Wow, it is like you are

Wow, it is like you are talking about ME!!! 44 yo female, no kids (except dogs), hubby - new onset tonic clonic seizures in November - started lamotrigine, and added Keppra a few weeks ago after seizure #4. I did have one sz in high school, and one just after college, but thought it was behind me. Now it's back. Maybe you have had other ones in the past, but now just have to focus on adapting to your current situation. I'm totally struggling with coping with a huge change in health status, along with a changing body due to age! I started taking Vitamin B6 along with the Keppra - supposed to help decrease the irritability affects of Keppra (per pharmacist in the epilepsy clinic) - maybe that  side effect is impacting you now that you've started it? I've been trying all kinds of stress management techniques, and that seems to be helping...plus joined this support system, which is also helping!! How did your neuro appt go?
