3yr old and having "seizures"?

Wed, 01/17/2007 - 03:21
Hi, I am new here..I have a 3yr old named Ramzy and am trying to find out any information I can about seizures. Ramzy was dx'd with Hypotonia with unknown eitology, has had sev MRI, 2 EEG's, genetic workup. still no answer. within the last year she has had "episodes" where she just looks up, smiles, has a little excessive drooling. Now it appears she might hear us but lately she has lost most of her tone when these episodes happen. Her last MRI which was done while sedated did not show any seizure activity, but her ped said we need to go back now that the "no tone" has started to show up..My question here is, Has anyone had these symptoms and have seizures?

My daughter has complex partial seizures. While the way hers present are different from your daughters you might want to read some of the descriptions on these type of seizures, and on absence seizures , on epilepsy.com. Complex partials in particular can have lots of different symptoms inlcuding staring, drooling and loss of muscle control depending on what part of the brian is affected, and they can have an altered consciousness not necessarily completely unconscious. Just as a general background to epilepsy the following link is a quite complex document on epilepsy and AEDS, but chapter 2 has a really good overview of childhood epilepsy and seizures types and causes etc. Might be of some help. here it is - www.hta.ac.uk/fullmono/mon1007.pdf

My 3 year old daughter also has hypotonia w/unknown etiology. She's had the MRI's, visits w/the neurologists, developmental peditricians, geneticists, etc., with no answers. When she was younger she had episodes where her body would stiffen, her head would go to the left & she would drool. They would only last a matter of seconds. (As far as I know she hasn't had any within the last year or so) I didn't really know what to make of it & when i asked the dr's they said it was probably related to the hypotonia. When i saw a neurologist in December for my seizure it was mentioned to him & he said it was probably seizures that she was experiencing. So now, I've been thinking back trying to think of other signs that she may have had seizures without me knowing (in her sleep). My brother was epileptic (grand mal's) as a child & usually the only way we would know he had a seizure was when he would wake up & have a head ache and his stomach hurting. I don't really have any info that can help other than to say since it sounds like our children have symptoms in common, feel free to email me to talk. Maybe we can help each other.
