Memory Loss - after sezuire
Fri, 07/01/2011 - 00:56Hello,
I am only new to this site, I have had epilepsy for over a year I am 19 years old, the sezuires started as grand mal sezuires and this continued for most of the year, they became more and more frequent before I started my medication I was having at least 2 or 3 a week. I started medication and have been on it for just over 6 months, every thing was going pretty well, I had one sezuire a few months after starting and then up until 2 weeks ago I have been fine. My concern is to do with the last sezuire I had. Basically, it wasnt really a 'normal' sezuire. I dont remember clearly anything that happended in the day. I have been told that I didnt blackout or have a sezuire as I would normally have, but I just forgot who I was, where I was and everyone and everything. This lasted for over 3 hours. I didnt know who my boyfriend of three years was and I fought him off me when he tried to help, I didnt even remember my mums name until 2 hours after it started. I am really worried and scared that it might happen again. I just want to know if anyone else has experience this or knows any thing about it. Thanks so much.

I would definitely talk to your Neurologist. I've had alot of seizures and with each you loose memory control for awhile after. I've never forgotten so badly that I'd fight people away but that probably depends on the situation and person's history, etc. as well.I also had them so bad that I honestly don't remember much from that time in my life just flashes and painful ones at that. Mine is a SEVERE case though,my seizures now aren't as bad as before.
I personally would only listen to your dr. because each case is different. A dr. would know more about meds, etc. but please remember that they are learning new things everyday. Even dr.'s don't know everything and aren't miracle workers. They are just smart, really smart people.
:) Never give up!!!

Your best bet is to talk to you Neuro. Good luck. This is all very scary. Im still trying to figure it all out. This site has been a huge help for me. I love just reading through peoples posts just so I know that I am not alone with this. It helps. I promise. Just keep your head up. :)

It may have been a complex partial seizure. I don't know, but I have epilepsy with tonic clonic and complex partial seizures. You also may have had a shorter seizure that was not noticed and then was postictal. I don't know, but I am usually that way after my seizures. You should talk to your neurologist about it.
