What's the maximum daily dosage of Keppra you should take?

Mon, 10/05/2015 - 13:47

Hi, I'm new to the forum.  I was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2011 after having two tonic-clonic seizures.  My neurologist put me on Keppra.  He started me on 2000 mg a day.  Since then, I've had two more TC's, and he has upped my dosage to 3000 mg/day.

I had a partial one recently, and now I have another appointment scheduled for tomorrow.  Can he up my dosage even more?  How much is too much, or should I be looking for a different med to take?

the maximum dosage for keppra

the maximum dosage for keppra is 4500 mg a day. I know I am on that level. Before you talk to your neurologist about getting off keppra as some people will tell you to do you do need to understand a few things. Side effects do happen. Generally 5-8% of the people taking the medication have them. So when you see one post about the medication not working or it drove them up a wall think of that person as being one of those 5-8%. Which means that 92-95% of the people taking it hav had no problems.People like the 2 others that have posted are some of those people that called keppra KepRage. If you haven't had problems with it and the dosage has been raised then use common sense and thnk are you one of the 5-8% or one of the 92-95% of the people taking it. I was still having 4-6 seizures a month and Doc and I wanted better control. Since I was at max levels we added vimpat to the keppra. That reduced the seizures to 3-5 seizures. We icreased the vimpat and now I have a seizure every 8-14 days. Reducing the seizures was good but shortening the time in them has been better too. In my seizures today I can have one while standig and talking to you and you wouldn't know about it.

I was diagnost with it 3 months ago. You just have to listen to your body and doctor. Not anyone else. Bur the dose for everyone is different.  Im on 1500 already and still am handling it well.
