Nocturnal Seizures gaining frequency

Sat, 02/13/2016 - 21:33

Hi

I'm 35. I'm diabetic since 11 years. Runs in the family.

About 10 years ago, in March 2006, I woke up all sore and wet one night. I'd had a grand mal seizure - very first time - and my tongue was badly bitten, my entire body was extremely stiff, and I had wet my bed. My mother had witnessed the seizure and my doctor agreed with my personal diagnosis that it had probably been triggered by extreme low blood sugar while I was asleep. I still had an MRI and EEG done... both came out perfectly normal.

9 months later, the episode repeated itself. Though there was no bed wetting this time, but the stiffness and tongue biting was pretty horrific. I met with a neurologist and he prescribed Sodium Valporate and Tegretol. Another MRI was done, 2 more EEGs, one normal and one sleep deprived where I had to stay awake for 30 hours before the test... all came out normal again. This time, I checked my blood sugar right after I woke up and that was normal too. So basically, diabetes wasn't triggering these seizures.

From then on, for the next nine years.. until 2015... these seizures occured every 8-9 months like clockwork... always nocturnal.Sodium valporate ruined my short term memory and my sex life. Somewhere around 2012, I was put on Keppra. but the frequency and intensity of the seizures remained the same.

But since mid 2015, I've had 3 seizures in the past 6 months. 2 of them really strong ones, and one mild. Each time I've bitten my tongue so bad that I have lost feeling on the left side of my tongue and have permanent cuts all around the edges.

Doctors dont seem to offer any explanation that I can understand. Does ANYONE here relate to what I am going through? Can ANYONE offer an explanation from experience if this would ever go away?

My memory is messed up! I cant sleep more than 4 hours a day! I think I am suffering from ED as well!! Can ANYONE out there help??
