Anabolic Steroids and Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy

Sat, 07/30/2016 - 18:57
This is my first time posting on the forum so hi all :-) I have never been one to openly talk about or admit my condition to anyone, but this is some what of a cautionary tale to anyone out there who suffers with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and wants to dabble with Anabolic Steroids, be it for performance or asthetic purposes that I thought I had better share. I've had JME since i was about 14-16, I don't remember exactly now, but with careful lifestyle choices such as early nights and avoiding alcohol, coupled with Sodium valproate the seizures have been kept at bay. I have never had a single seizure where i would loose consciousness, but prior to mediciation i would regularly suffer myoclonic jerks in the morning, and when ever I attempted anything requiring cognative thought or physical co-ordination that would come in bursts and put an end to what ever it was I was trying to do, which was really debilitating. A couple of years ago, on the recommendation of a personal trainer I tried "Sus and Deca" or Sustonal 250 and deca durabolin 150 once a week to recover from a sporting injury. this turned out to be a grave mistake. While on the course of Steroids, I had no seizure activity, but approximately 3 weeks after stopping them I started to have seizures just like before I was on medication, only worse. Not a single day would go by without seizure activity, and performing basic tasks became difficult to perform without causing myself injury through burns or cuts etc... I have no idea exactly what the interactions were here that may have caused this, but it took me about 6-months to a year to get back to normal. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has any similar experiences, but if nothing else, this might inform anyone about to make the same mistake not to do it before it is to late.
