Zonisamide/Lamictal/Depakote

Sat, 05/09/2015 - 11:48
My neurologist recently had me on 100 mg of Zonisamide in the morning, 150 mg of Zonisamide at night along with 400 mg of Lamictal. I felt it was still not controlling my seizures as I was having the same amount, if not more than not taking medication. About 10 days ago, we decided to transition to 1000mg Depakote, starting with adding 500 mg of Depakote at night (only lowering Zonisamide by 50mgn not lowering Lamictal at all). Two days ago, I woke up and the room was spinning; the entire day I was nauseous, dizzy and had a headache. Yesterday and today, I woke up with the same symptoms (nausea, dizziness and headache). Has anyone has similar symptoms from the medications?

People need to understand

People need to understand that it does take time for medications to start working with the theraputic level the neurologist has set. Which takes about 2 months from the start of taking it. If changes are made then a time period starts again. Just because you are taken off a nedication it is still in your body. It takes time for all of that medication to get out. I thought I was having a problem with a generic I was taking but it wasn't the generic since I had used it before. It was due to a test medication I had been on and the medication was finally out of my body That didn't show up for a litle over a month. Each change takes time so learn that time is something that has to be dealt with. Each change can take a month. As for control??? That depends on the neurologist and how the person uses his meds. Some people will have complete control but others will not. I know been there done that and I have been seizure free for periods of time. Once 3 years but I still have seizures Two days ago, I woke up and the room was spinning; the entire day I was nauseous, dizzy and had a headache. I recently had a seizure

I recently had a seizure after being seizure free for 14 years. My Dr. thinks it is because I am taking the generic. And my pharmacist said generics can vary in the amount of medication they contain. So my levels may have been going up and down. I have been a pharmacy technician and have always been told generics have to be equivalent. But after this happened to me now I have to wonder. Should we all be taking BRAND meds for our epilepsy? But then with that comes the cost... my meds with insurance is $1000 a month. Who can afford that ????
