My daughter just started taking 300mg zonegran. I would like to hear some comments about the medication. I realize meds affect everyone differently but would like to hear some comments. Thanks Lora

Hi Lora, I know that meds affect every person differently, and all that...but I love Zonegran. I have been on Topamax, Depakote, & Carbamazepine...so far Zonegran works best for me. I am currently taking 300 mgs also. Depending on how I do this next month we may or may not up the dosage...so far this medicine controls my Complex partials better than any of the others...if we can get them to stop completely? Woo hoo, I will take the full dose! Just make sure she drinks LOTS of water to avoid kidney stones. Lets see what else...oh they said it will make me sleepy...ummm no it didn't...not me. It hyped me up, but I needed the energy boost I guess. But when I do go to sleep? I sleep very, very sound...like a rock. Oh, it may make her not very hungry too, I have lost some weight on it. Good luck, I hope she does well on it. E-mail me if you have any questions. Dayna

My son is on his second time taking Zonegran and it seems to do well for him. We are still working for control of seizures but he is SO much better. His main side affect is the apetite supression so we watch that carefully. We found last time that adding some carnation shakes and things helped. We are careful with what he eats so it is not just junk, but good healthy food with his smaller apetite. YEs, Do make sure she drinks plenty of water. ONE thing to really watch is overheating. Some people have an issue with not sweating when on it. We did not see this with either child though. My daughter also took this med for over a year. It did ok for her until we got up to 300. She had an increasing anxiety problem that really impaired her! Her grades plumetted and memory problems were bad. She is now off Zonegran and she is doing fine. YOu are right that everyone reacts so individually with this med. It is wonderful for my son, though not for my daughter. I still like it since it is giving him his life back!! Take care! I hope she does well with it! G
