want to get off Keppra

Thu, 10/27/2016 - 12:31
I have been diagnosed with epilepsy for 5 years. I have been on Keppra. I just want to be off of it. I was driving while I had my first seizure and luckily I never hurt anyone. I do have to have permission to drive every year from my neurologist due to my accident. I am scared to go off because I wonder if it will ever happen again while driving. I would not be able to live with that. I don't want to lose my license either. It is very important to me. Its part of my freedom. I have been seizure free for 2 years.

Seizure free for 2 years is

Seizure free for 2 years is great. I know what it is like not wanting to take medications. I also know what can happen if you decide to get off them without your doctor weaning you off. Believe me it wasn't fun when I did it. Research status epilepticus.  Then think of having one convulsive seizure after another and having 40 an hour. Back when I did that there was no 911. They couldn't get a vehicle that could transport me until 530 am and the seizures started around 10pm.What my cousin did was after 2-3 year without a seizure they started weaning her off meds slowly. that way is she had one they could increase it to where it was before she had it and they kept her at that amount. That way she was seizure free and she was taking less medication then before but she stayed seizure free. So before you try to go without meds do discuss this with your neurologist. But yes they can run an EEG to see if the abnormalities aka spikes, waves or seizure activity is there

Thank you I definitely do not

Thank you I definitely do not want to have 40 in and hour at all.  I will look up status epilepticus.  I will definitely talk to my doctor. I much rather be on it than the alternative.  Thanks again.
