Thu, 09/08/2016 - 09:26
Hi All, Can you please advise what was done in case if Valproic Acid (Valproate (VPA), and its Valproic Acid, Sodium Valproate) was not effective even after 18 days of its course & continue. She first started with Frisium 5(benzodiazepin / Clobazam) but were ineffective as well. She is currently having Mycolonic Jerks in her arms & eyes and generalised clonic tonic as her first seizure. Have any of your child have gone through similar situation what was done & which medicine actually worked. Your inputs will be highly helpful. God bless you all...

So the medication is not

Submitted by just_joe on Thu, 2016-09-08 - 13:49
So the medication is not working... She was on clobazam.. but it and teh other were ineffective. The first thing to understand is that seizure medications are not like aspirin where once taken it is gone in a few hours. It takes 2-3 weeks for the medication to build up in her body to the therapeutic level the neurologist wants it at. After that if the patient is having fewer seizures the medication is working but the dosage needs to be adjusted. If she is beingremoved from one to the other ans is currently on 2 meds then that too needs to be looked at. Too much medicatin is just as bad as too little.Call her neutologist and discuss this issue with them. They can make adjustments to dosages without a visit. Medicine changes can also be made the same way.. I am not speaking about my child I am the one with epilepsy and I was teh one asking questions.IS things had been going good and I started haveing a few more seizures I called DOC. Adjustments werwe made. I gave it about a month or 2 and then called Doc to let him know the adjustment worked.I hope this helpedJoe
