URGENT, please help!

Hey I have been prescribed Lamictol recently to help control my complex partial seizures, and it has been working really well. I have been on it about 5 days, however today I woke up and my tongue was really swollen and sore. It still is and now my lips are kind of numb as well. I spoke to my GP and he said not to worry, but I read on the internet that I should go to A&E just incase my tongue ends up blocking my airway. At the moment I can still swallow and talk okay. Anybodys advice as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey Josie, So sorry your not feeling well. I am on Lamictol and have not done well. I was sick with 'flu-like' symptoms for the first six months. I feel dizzy, forgettful, fatigued, and druged. My doc says its the best and I should try to ride it out. It has been 10 months now. I continue to have several sz every day. I have never exp any swelling. There is a chance your symptom is not from your medication. If you do not agree with your GP, I would suggest you go to a walk-in clinic. They seem to be everywhere now and will bill your insurance. They are not considered an emergency clinic, so there should be no pre-auth necessary. You know your body better than any doc and if you know there is something wrong, I think you should get it checked out right away. I wish you all the best and hope you start to feel better. Post your results so we know your ok. Cara

That sounds like an allergic reaction to me. It may or may not be from the Lamictol, but I'm frankly surprised that your GP said not to worry about a swollen tongue and numb lips. He sounds about as thoughtful as mine :( I would go to emergency over this. I had an allergic reaction to chewable gravol once and it sounds exactly like what you are describing. :/
