Is Trileptal Working?

Tue, 07/25/2006 - 18:22
Can anyone give me an estimated time of how long you try with one medication before deciding its not working? My 9 yr old is on Trileptal for his CPS. He was having about 1 sz a month. On meds he went 3 months. 4 mos after sz he had some strange hand sensations for 3 days in a row so upped meds and then went 5 months then had a sz. Does this mean it is working but not at the right dosage? (He is doing a lot of growing (height & weight)) Dr. said if Trileptal doesn't work he would put him on Lamictal. He started at a 10 (600 mm/day) and he is now at a 25 (1350 mm/day). Does anything have any experience like this? Thank you.

Hi Tracey! I am taking Trileptal for 9 years. That's the medicine I started from the beggining. I take 2100mg/day and I am 27 years old. I have only very small sz (small bites at my tongue) about two times every month. My doctor told me to add Keppra, but I haven't do that. I have a normal life and I don't want experiments with that. The only bad is that at a dose of 1200mg I have a really bad headache. But I take a dose up to 900 mg. I think that the decision is up to the doc. My advise... do not go only to one doctor. I live in Greece, I have seen four doctors, I have heared three different advises. Andreas
