Trileptal, really starting to question it.

Thu, 11/16/2006 - 22:54
my daughter lauren is age 9 and has epilepsy. She was placed on trileptal last Feb and was doing great on it, now all of a sudden she is having absence seizures and there are times when she is a difficult child. I almost at times want to take her off the medication and see if I get my daughter back. but I know that I can't do that, just wishful thinking. I would love to hear from others who are either on trileptal or have a child on it. To find out what kind of side effects they experienced. or maybe if anyone knows of a different anti-convulsant medicine without some of these side effects. Would appreciate any help I can get. Michele

Hi Michele, I have just gotten off of trileptal this week. I really liked. I was on it for years. But my side effect caused me to have low sodium. When I had low sodium caused me to have more auras, and generalized seizures that I dont have at all, just complex partial. Everytime I had a generalized seizure I would get blood work. It showed the I was low on sodium caused by the meds. take care lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Hi michelle, i am 18 yrs old and have been taking tripleptal for the past 2 yrs, when i was diagnosed with E. Trileptal is the only meds that i have ever taken but i do agree with you that i do get more auras. i don't get sezuires but i do definitly get more auras. I also agree with the other comment b/c i too have low sodium but never connectted it with the trileptal. i was told i was anemic(sp?) and that i just had to take vitamins for that. sorry if this wasnt any help but maybe talk to your doc and explain to her what is happening. hope your daughter feels better!! *IRIS*

IRIS I would drink gatorade, when I felt all the auras coming on. For that was a sign that I was low on sodium. Gatorade has lots of sodium but I would have to drink it for days, yuch! I hate that stuff. But you could eat olives or things with salt too. But that is why I got off. Be careful in the summer when it it very hot and your water intake when you see you are having more auras. FOr that will cause you to have more seizures. take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/
