Trileptal and Nicotine

Sat, 03/21/2015 - 09:13

Hi,

I was diagnosed with epilepsy about 3 years ago, and I have been taking Trileptal (1+2 x 300mg/day) ever since. It works very well on me, and I haven't had a seizure ever since. Something that I have noticed to be quite different from before, is that I seem to be affected by nicotine much stronger than before. I am wondering if anyone else who is taking Trileptal is feeling the same.

Before my diagnosis I used to consume relatively large amounts of nicotine and feel nice and relaxed. I used strong snus, which is a kind of smokeless alternative for cigarettes, which contains a lot more nicotine than cigarettes (about 20x more. Yes, I know, it's insane). Nowadays it would take me a couple of weeks to intake my earlier daily dose of nicotine without feeling sick. I thought that this must be because of Trileptal, because I find it quite unlikely that I would have undergone such significant physiological changes in just a few years.

I was not able to find any information on experiences on the interaction between Trileptal and nictone, so I hope I could find out if anyone else is feeling the same.

To make you readers feel better, I can tell that I can manage just fine without nicotine. This is just a topic that has been puzzling me for quite a while.
