Topamax vs Lamictal

I have been on Lamictal for about five months now. I am currently on 250mg of Lamictal twice a day, 200 mg of Tegertol, twice a day. I used to be on 100 mg of Dilantin in the morning, 200 mg of Dilantin at night. Ever since I have been on Lamictal, I have lost weight, got low blood sugar, and seemed to have lost energy. I called the doctor amnd he is now going to take me off Lamictal and put me on Topamax. He also wants me to go back on Dilantin, on the dose that I used to be on Before all of this. I feel he is going to use the Dilantin until I go on Topamax. I am wondering if anyone has been on any of these drugs, and would like to hear anything about Topamax and how it has worked you. Lamictal and Backne

I've recently went up to 100 mg. of Lamictal. Since that time ive been battling back acne. The only thing i can pin point since it started was that I jumped to 100 mg. I went and saw my doctor because i originally thought it was this "rash" that alot of people get while on this medication. She looked at my back and said it was acne. Though the acne could be a side effect of this medication. Has anyone experienced this? She wants to change my lamictal to topamax but im hearing alot of negative cognitive problems that topamax has as a side effect. Im so sick of switching from one med to another. I hope to find the right one. Lamictal seems to be working great for me but Im a mid twenty female and back acne is not a plus for me. Ive never had to deal with that before so im ruling out that it could be from stress, food, etc.

When I was 12 I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. They started me on dilatin, but my doctor was worried about the problems dilaton can cause from the side effects. He chose tegretol as my first change. Tegretol gave me a rash, so we went to Lamictal. After a while I got a new nero and he had a moral issue against lamictal so he attempted to change me to topamax. Topamax gave me such a short fuse it wasnt even funny. Ive since been back to Lamictal and been on it for 5 years since, However I appear to be building a resistance... ~Chris M

Lamictal

I was told the news of epilepsy at the age of 6 I am now 26. I have been on just about every drug they ever made. It was ten years ago that they put me on lamictal I was on 300mg morning and 400mg evening because anything over 350 gave me vertigo to the point of vomiting for hours. Recently (past few months) it seems that I also have developed a resistance. They upped my levels even though I told them what happened in the past but they still did it. Now I am at 400mg twice a day. What I have to do is take the meds early morning and then go back to bed or else I will just spend hours over the toilet wishing I was dead. If this doesn't work they will have to add another drug to Lamictal, there aren't many things that I haven't been on though that either didn't work, made them worse or the side effects were so horrific it wasn't worth it. I wish you the best of luck in finding something that works. Jenny
