Topamax and Carbetrol for sooo long

Mon, 12/15/2014 - 21:07

hi everyone, ive been on carbetrol (800mg/day) in its varying formats for 25yrs, and topamax (400mg/day) for 10 to 12. prior to the topamax was the normal jumping from one med to another. my question is this: is it ok to be on them for so long? ive been seizure free for seven years, although i have frequent and debilitating auras. due to my depression, taking me off the carbetrol (we only tried once) is close to impossible as im pretty much made of the stuff by now. also, randomly two years ago my memory started failing. and at this point no one even expects me to remember things anymore. i feel like my brain is running at multiple speeds. the words come out wrong, often. am i being permanently damaged? have i been?

I was on 3 medications which

I was on 3 medications which I took daily for 35 years. If a medication is working and controlling your seizures and your neurologist thinks you are doing good then no no need to change. Those frequent and debilitating auras are basically a seizure itself.. The only reason I was taken off the medications I was on is because I was getting toxic on one of them. You may want to copy this post and have your neurologist answer these questions. He may be able to answer your questions about memory loss too
