Topamax - 1st week - Not Good

Sat, 02/03/2007 - 17:03
Hi. This is my 1st week on topamax for CPS. I explained to my neuro that I am very sensitive to meds so he started me off at 25 mg/day, eventually working up to 100 mg/day. So far the topamax has caused me alot of GI distress, but i can deal with that. The main 3 overwhelming issues I am having are nausea, extreme dizziness, and extreme sleepiness. I am only taking 25 mg at night and each morning I wake up, these symptoms are worse and worse. Finally today, day 5, I woke up and I feel like I am hung over. I am so nauseous and dizzy and I can barely keep my eyes open. I have been able to get out of bed twice today (this is one of those times). I am taking such a low dose and experiencing such an extreme reaction. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this?

Hannah, can you switch to something else? I would definetly call your doctor on Monday. I am taking trileptal, which does make me slightly tired but not to the extreme that you are experiencing. I am trying to figure out if I should switch to lamictal myself.
