Hi,

My son, who has complex partial epilepsy, took Tegretol 2 years ago to start out with after being diagnosed. He tolerated it very well - he didn't get irritable or aggressive the way other meds have made him since - but it was ineffective in controlling his seizures. He has been taking Trileptal for a while now, and is doing well in terms of irritability and seizure control, although the dose has been increased to the max. Actually, Tegretol and Trileptal are almost the same drug, but at least for my son, Trileptal has been much more effective. If you just started, you might want to wait and see if it works given time. Otherwise, maybe Trileptal would be a good alternative for you, as it has been for my son.

Maggie,

Two weeks really hasn't been long enough for this, or any other medications, to become effective to control seizures. Your body need to adjust to the medication and to the timeframe if and when the dosage amount is increased. Just inform your doctor your status and the up-to-date effectiveness with the medication, so if you're not having any serious side effects, but are still having seizures, the doctor may decide to increase the dosage amount.

This isn't just you, it's for everyone and every antiepliptic drug.
