Tapering off valporate to lamotrigine

Sat, 04/01/2017 - 03:02
Im 46, had myclonic seizures all my life, did not know that what they were so did not get any medical help. From 20-30 i had gran mal seizures when withdrawing from drugs, from 30-42 no drug use and no seizures, myclonic but i was used to those so thought nothing of it. When i was 44 i had a tonic seizure and they found 2 aneurisms. they put me on 400mg od valporate, 1st time on medication, wanting to up the dose but i refused. I got my aneurisms clipped and after a year i took myself off the medication, 3 months off another tonic seizure so back on valporate. Not happy on the medication, i am now 6 weeks into lamotrigine, have another 4 weeks before i hope to withdrawl from the valporate...but i am super tired, sleep any chance i can get and i am only 1/3 of the way to getting on the correct dose of lamotrigine...do i just put up with this? Also i have had aboutt 5 ECG's, many MRI's, they have found nothing...i hate being on medication...

I was diagnosed with juvenile

I was diagnosed with juvenile epilepsy when I was 11 years old which converted to Grand Mal Epilepsy at 15. I'm 26 now and I've only had 4 Grand Mal seizures in the last 10 years. I was on 500 mg epival since 15 years old and I got 2 seizures last year when I was on 250 mg epival because my doctor started tapering the dose since last 5 years. Now my doctor put me on Lamnet (Lamictal) 100 mg since 1 month and after tapering of epival (valporate), I'm on Lamnet for now. Even though my seizures were controlled with epival, I experienced 5 major side effects: alopecia, weight gain, hirsutism, menstrual irregularities and tremors. Even though my doctor told me I won't get tremors with Lamnet, my tremors have worsened and I even got a skin rash. I don't know how to improve these tremors since they disrupt my daily activities and I have a pretty hard time doing any of the said activities which other people can do easily and this really demotivates me.

And how long to come off the epival, epilum?Yeah those side effects are why i wanted to switch and im praying to not get the rash...I read in another post that epival takes time to get out of yr system...So will you go on another drug now, there are a few more you could try?It frustrating they all have side affectsGood luck to us both...
