Switching Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) to Cannabis (CBD)

Mon, 12/19/2016 - 04:12
Hello! I was diagnosed with epilepsy around a year ago, but I now realize I've had it all my life just not grand mal seizures. I've been treated with Trileptal, but I'm also a stoner. In the last couple of years I've become more lonely and a little depressed. The shock of my epilepsy diagnosis has made this a little worse. I'm very familiar with cannabis and trust it more than my meds. The first time I smoked was when I was 12 years old, but didn't like the intense sensations and didn't really start smoking until my twenties (I'm almost 30). I've realized that I have been kind of self medicating with cannabis, but not in a controlled medical way. The strains I've been smoking have been Amsterdam-style high THC (15-30%) strains and maybe not that good for me. I had a big emotional breakdown last week and really started understanding many psychological issues I have and was able to pinpoint lots of events and direct stress factors related to my grand mal seizures and their commencement I think that either the Trileptal just doesn't work for me (started with 300mgx2, and they're telling me to go 900mgx2/d) or it interacts in a bad way with cannabis (THC?). Now I feel like the emotional/mental realizations are what I need to focus on and I'm gonna see a psychiatrist. I'm also not smoking/vaping/etc for now and if I start again I need to really focus on dosage and avoid super high THC strains and edibles. I found a company selling CBD products (Endoca.com) and I'm thinking of trying them out. They ship almost everywhere as it is a non-psychoactive extract. I'm planning on feeling out my Trileptal dosage now that I'm not using Cannabis. I also want to really focus on my mental healing and not stress myself. Maybe I will switch to CBD and wean off Trileptal and start trying out CBD: i.e. taking 5x1ml drops of CBD x2 and keeping 10mg pills at hand for feelings of epilepsy. What do you guys think? I found a study from this year (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26800377), where they successfully treated children with intractable epilepsy with CBD. The only thing is, they used 1 to 20mg/kg/d of CBD. To me this sounds like a lot.
