Stress, Anger and Depression

Thu, 09/01/2016 - 12:35
Hello, I am new to this forum. I am 20 years old and was diagnosed 5 years ago with generalized epilepsy. I currently take Depakote and Keppra name brand only. I have many days of where I cannot seem to get along with anyone. I am very depressed and angry at myself and others. I was so depressed today and angry at myself that my head started to hurt so bad and it felt like knifes were stabbing me in the head. I fell to the ground and just began to cry. I was so upset that my mom was trying to calm me down and was telling me to think positive things to help me get through it. I have tried so many medications and there is nothing more to try. I hate what the medicine is doing to me. Any advise? need a friend.

So you were diagnosed at 15

So you were diagnosed at 15 yoa. which was about the time I was diagnosed. But I had been having seizures for about 2 years before the testing was done to find the cause of my epilepsy. Both of the medications you are taking have side effects. All those side effects could be parts of the issues you posted. At 15 your parents are the people the neurologists talk to. So unless they look at you and ask questions they do not know exactly what you have been going thru. However at 20 yoa you need to be the person the neurologists talk to. Discuss this issue with them. As for trying many medications. What would you rather do not take them or find one that stops your seizures that does not have side effects that are like those you are having now. Or have seizures that will become stronger and really uncontrolled? I was tired of taking meds too. But after we moved I was th one that had epilepsy so I ws the one that had to find a new neurologist. I found one in 1971. I have been with the same group of neurologists since then. They ask me questions, I answer them truthfully. they use my answers to thnk of other things or medications that can help comtrol my seizures. They all found out I ask questions too. I want results. I want control. So I ask questions. Hey Doc I have been angry more then I used to be could that be somethng related to my meds? Hey Doc  I had a few more seizures this last month. Do we need to raise the dosage of one of my meds? The questions are simple. But by asking them the neurologists know you want control and results.Call your neurologist and talk. Find out if there are other medications that can control your seizures with fewer side effects.

that's horrible. do you have any interests to take your mind off stuff? I've got my pets, my music, my cross stitch, my coworkers...sounds like you need a hobby, something you enjoy that makes you forget about your condition. :)
