strange happenings with my mouth

I have more questions for you guys..have any of you ever had any problems with your jaw before..as in i guess u could call them jaw spasms..most of them i feel as though I am yawning, and then my mouth begins to chatter..it has started happening more frequently, on Sunday i had a bout for about 15 seconds..there is a thing called TMJ which has to do with the jaw's connection to the skull being misaligned, and i know my mom has this..but usually I exeperience a lot of dizziness afterwards and sometimes feel these things coming on. and i have bit my tongue before doing so. i have told people about it before, and these are people who do have seizure disorders and it surprised them..this is something that started about a month ago..I have an upcoming appt. with my neuro on the 27th of this month, I guess I have something else to add to my list..since I was released from the hospital in July for my latest vEEG, i have had 2 times where i have awoken around 3:30 am-ish having to use the bathroom because my bladder felt like it would explode..with one of these episodes i woke up nauseas also and i was able to eventually get back to sleep and later in the morning when I woke my lower inside lip was bit..the other time i woke up around 3:30am-ish again with my bladder screaming and i laid down to try to go to sleep and eventually got nauseas enuff that i was in the bathroom dry heaving and i wasn't able to sleep at all the rest of the day. both times, especially the first, people around me observed me acting strangely and being off balance and seeming intellectually "slow". the first time around i wasn't feeling back to normal for a week and was acting oddly for about 3 or 4 days...the second time around was only for a day or so that anyone observed me being "out of it." my energy levels have sank a little more too. I hope to GOD i get some answers soon because this is obviously scaring the heck out of me. if anyone has any idea of what this mouth stuff could be, let me know..

For over twenty years, since the age of ten I have had right temporomandibular joint dysfunction caused by dentistry. After this I started right temporal lobe epilepsy at the age of ten. I have an arthritic jaw bone caused by a misaligned bite which caused continual pain and cracking.

Through the years I have noticed a link between this and my number of seizures. When, due to rigorous exercise, I had no pain and good flexibility for six months, that was also the only period of time since my epilepsy started that I stopped having seizures. I have recently had a temporomandibular joint procedure and the swelling has encouraged more seizures. I can locate the problem to a point at the back of my neck, that if manipulated causes auras and seizures.

It is difficult to find a neurologist who will acknowledge the link- but I have heard of a link from many people. I am seeing a Maxillofacial specialist who blames the epilepsy-but it seems to me that the TMJ came first. I've been given Lyrica by my current neurologist which although I don't respond well to any medications it is an antiepileptic and pain killer. I received good information from the website tmj.org

TMJ

I've been diagnosed with TMJ, that's about the jaw clicking out of place at times and causing swelling round the temporomandibular joint. More info. I don't believe it would explain all of your symptoms, or so I've been led to believe by those who diagnosed me with TMJ. I've had a lot of the symptoms you've been having, I haven't gotten to the bottom of it. Am very interested in what your doctors make of it. Bladder thing is horrible, it used to stop me sleeping and disturb my fiance's sleep. I've not injured my mouth since getting a splint to treat the TMJ, though I'm not sure how safe splints are for people who have epilepsy - mine doesn't budge from position once it is on though. My fiance observed me doing a lot of your symptoms during the end of 2004 and the beginning of this year - I've not been diagnosed with epilepsy, I'm still in limbo a bit with medical investigations as I'm not satisfied with my neuro's lack of interest/explanation regarding what I'm going through. I have been diagnosed with Non-Epileptic seizure, but I'm not satisfied that it explains everything that's happening to me. I hope you find answers soon, my experience isn't neccessarily reflective of your situation - your symptoms just sound similar to mine, so you aren't alone in having these kind of problems. All the best for you appointment, Lynsey
