Starting ethosuximide and stopping Lyrica

Tue, 12/20/2016 - 17:49
Hi everyone, I'm 38 years old, and was diagnosed with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy when I was 16 years old. I gave taken many medications and the best combo. by far was 75mg Lamictal bid and 100mg Lyrica bid. I've been taking this for the past 11 years. My last grand mal was on 8/9/1999. Stress will lead to absence seizures but for 1-2 seconds and I usually stop them when I realize they are coming. I don't have side effects from these meds., but I don't want to take Lyrica anymore. My neurologist suggested ethosuximide in place of the Lyrica. I started taking 250 mg bid yesterday (I've taken 2 doses so far). The Lyrica will be titrated down starting on 12/29. The ethosuximide is making me so nauseous!I know going off the Lyrica will cause this but I'm still on it, and the Lyrica has a short half life, so I'm not too concerned. Does the nausea subside once the body gets used to the ethosuximide? Any tips? It's all day long and as soon as I wake up. It's the worst if I'm just standing (walking is fine). I had food in my stomach last night when I took it and I still felt sick. Thank you!
