starting celexa

Wed, 08/23/2006 - 09:36
I am starting celexa today, to help me get through this deep depression I'm stuck in. I am very nervous when reading the side effects! I know that they have to list every possibility..just in case..but it makes me paranoid. I'd rather not take any meds, but that isn't an option for me. I'd love to hear from others who've had to add anti-depressants; how it went, any tips, and how you're feeling now. Thank you! Heather

Warning: Celexa lowers the seizure threshold. They don't tell you this. That is half the reason we figured out I have seizures in the first place. After being on since March, I'm off as of Thursday. Keep really close watch on your seizures. Good luck.

Hannah, I'm sorry that you didn't have much luck w/ the Celexa, and hope that you feel better soon! My epi was very hesitant to start me on any anti-depressant, due to the increased risk of sz's. However, my depression is quite bad. I'm trying everything to ease my symptoms. To no avail, so I have to take the risk unfortunately. I will certainly keep a close eye out though...thanks for your response! Heather

There are a lot of different anti-depressants out there. I have an appointment with a psychiatrist in October to revisit the anti-depressant issue. If we find I still need them, they are going to have to play with with different meds until we find the one that works best. Whatever you do, don't fall into the trap of "this is supposed to work and I guess the doctor knows what he's doing." Ask a TON of questions. Report anything strange. Keep a really open dialogue with any doctors who are treating you. Most of all, don't be afraid of seeking out other help. I probably don't need to tell you that, though. ;) I am starting back with therapy in October. I really want to look into as much natural help as I can. Blessings and prayers and big hugs! Hannah
