skin rash with Trileptal?

Mon, 08/08/2005 - 23:52
OK, I have been on Trileptal for about 30 days now, and I have got this itchy rash that started on my forearms, and is now moving to the trunk of my body. It itches like crazy! Has anyone else reacted to Trileptal this way? If you did, what did your rash look like? The only reason why I'm asking is this: I have also done some yard work in the last two weeks, and I am wondering if it's poison ivy (which I've never had before either.) From what I understand, the gestation period for Trileptal is about 19-20 days, so it's more than likely I am allergic to it. Anyone else have this reaction? I have my appt. with my neurologist on Thursday, so hopefully we'll figure it out. Let me know!

Hi - If the rash isn't gone by tomorrow, I would check with the doctor IMMEDIATELY!  Any drug is capable of giving you an allergic reaction, like a rash.  If that is what it is, you need to let the doctor know!!!!!  If you experience any trouble breathing, see sores in your mouth, eyes, etc., ANYTHING.....go to the E/R, better yet, call 911!!  I don't want to sound over-dramatic, but please, don't wait!

I had 2 very serious allergic reactions to meds last year, and now have to carry and epi-pen with me at all times, to give myself a shot if I break out again.  My rash was bright red, began on my back and then went all over my body!  It was a flat rash, not raised.  I had white spots in the back of my throat.  It itched like crazy!

I take trileptal and you can get a rash from it. I have a rash right now and it is not itchy. Mine is just flat on my face and you barely can notice it.  I have spoken to the doctor about it, she told me that it fine.

And I think if you get the rash it is itchy anyway. But I would call your doctor to be on the safe side.

I agree with other posts. My 16 yo dd got rashes from lamictal and zonegran, and sores in mouth, eyes, etc. Her fever went up to 105. Tell your doc you are no longer willing to take this drug! It could become serious eventually...It took my dd over a month to heal! Wendy
